In this work, I have been trying to establish a collective space between the forty-six MFA students that I've been working with at CCA. One hour interviews have taken place with each individual. During these study groups a mixture of half-structured and half spontaneous information is exchanged and recorded. The meeting closes and I transcribe the conversation independently. Re-occurring themes and ideas particular to the individual get highlighted. The transcription gets read and reread until the underlying narrative becomes clear. A set of notes and a short score explaining this narrative gets passed on to my collaborator, Alexander Chen, who then composes, performs and produces a two minute song.

The songs and titles serve as notes from our study groups, providing an 'in' for anyone who wants to join our public. They are the soundtrack for the MFA Thesis Show which takes place on May 7, 2009 at California College of the Arts, in San Francisco, CA.
